Heart of Iowa Soapworks is the result of my search for skin-care products that are free of unnecessary colorants, additives and preservatives. One day I was skimming through a "back to basics" book and stumbled upon a section on soap making....hmmmm I can cook, so I should be able to make soap right?!? The article said that properly made LYE soap was very kind to your skin.....hmmm again....
You see, I have very sensitive skin that results in bouts of eczema and roseacea.
Most commercial soaps leave my skin dry and itchy, and more often than not, with a nasty rash too! Many of the most popular commercial soaps are detergent based. Detergents are great for cleaning, but they also remove most of the natural oil from your skin, leaving it taut and uncomfortable.
I create soaps using the cold-process method. This method insures that the soaps contain approximately 25% natural glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant, meaning that it attracts moisture and holds it to your skin. These handmade soaps are not to be confused with the so-called clear "glycerin soap". Most of those are manufactured with detergents and other artificial ingredients.
After more than 6 years of research and countless dollars spent on materials, I have come up with what I believe is a true Artisan Soap. It is soothing to your skin and smells like heaven......
All soaps are created with food quality oils and butters such as: unrefined Shea Butter, Cocoa butter, Mango butter and other luxury oils such as: Olive oil, Jojoba, Sweet Almond oil to name a few. Each ingredient is selected with a purpose in mind. A sample from each batch is hand-tested before deeming it saleable.
